Grace Layne Photography - Homeschoolin Hot Mess Mama

Last week I told you guys about all of my kiddos, but did you know that I also homeschool them? That means I never get a mama minute to collect my thoughts, or ever finish a cup of coffee, but I wouldn't change it for anything.

I know that these days, the thing to do is remote learning, or even switching to homeschooling (these two things are VERY different, but more on that later). I was the mom that did this homeschoolin thing before it was even the cool thing to do. In fact, many people thought I was CRAZY for wanting to homeschool, and maybe I am, who knows! But I actually LOVE it! It is chaotic, sometimes stressful, and always challenging for all of us, but I couldn't imagine my kiddos being with and learning from others more than me or their dad.

There were many reasons that prompted my hubby and I to make the choice to homeschool but the main one is we want to be sure to add Jesus to our daily school agenda. Every day the kids and I read a chapter from their kid bible and do a work book to go with this. Some days, the kids fight non stop during this and go bonkers, so it may be the only "formal" learning they get. I have learned that this is OKAY, and I just go with the flow. This is definitely something that you have to learn to accept, because it is not the norm of public school. However, even if that is all we get done in a formal setting, we cook together using counting and measurements as well as following directions, or we go on a walk and have conversations about the bugs and plants we see. One time my daughter asked how a jelly fish eats, so we looked it up, and got some books from the library to learn ALL THE THINGS about jelly fish. Learning is constant!

The big thing I do every day is read to my kids. I believe that reading is key and the foundation for all other learning, so naturally it is a big focus for me.

I didn't really intend for this blog post to be all about my daily life with homeschooling, but maybe this helps some other mamas out there that are homeschooling for the first time this year and are feeling lost and down. You got this mama! Your kids were given to you for a reason and are blessed to have you as their mom and teacher.

I intended this post to let you all know why I chose I homeschool, but that reason is super simple really...I am obsessed with my kids! Haha! But really. ;) So if you ever see me out and about with a hot mess mom bun with yesterday's mascara on... just know we are making memories...and I most likely was not able to finish my coffee! :)
